Hiking the Lower(rhymes with flower) Trail yesterday and saw tons of spring wild flowers. The Trilliums are an especial favorite of mine.

Really nice contrast between the dark red petals and the green foliage, where in the USA is the lower trail ?. Nice to see an early 8Mp camera still belting away.

I like the shot. And I just had to check out what a Konica Minolta Dimage A2 was. 2/3 sensors can deliver if you don't print wall-sized.

The Lower Trail is a 17mile trail in Central Pennsylvania that follows the banks of the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River from Williamsburg, PA to Alexandria. It was once a canal for hauling iron ingots from the Mt. Etna Furnace, then it was filled in and became a railroad bed for doing the same. Now it's part of the rails-to-trails program. Great hiking/biking(totally flat) Trail.

Great photo. Someone posted a photo to an Iowa Flickr site, of a white trillium. I had never heard the name trillium, and my wife who is a bit of a flower aficionado said she had not heard of it either. We are on the western edge for trillium according to Wikipedia. I am spending much time in my garden this time of year, and not much time hiking.

By the way, it is a great photo. I also did not know there was a red trillium.

A tidbit of pioneer history:

Because of their very deep color some pioneer children called red trilliums "Bloody Noses."
