First shots with the Sigma 24-60 2.8
Posted By: tcdk, 10-05-2008, 11:14 AM

After some advice from the forum I got this lens, as my new low light indoor zoom.

I finally had chance to use it today. A quite day, with the kids and the sister in-laws kids (the first two shots). The first one is cropped quite a bit, the other ones are nearly straight from camera, except for exposure compensation...

Normally I would have used the 50mm 1.4 for this - but the freedom of the zoom was nice, and while I missed the bit of extra light, I guess you can't have it all. The last shot would have been impossible with a 50mm, and if I had stopped to switch lens, he would have been long gone.

I think I like this lens. I would have liked a bit shallower DOF, but the bokeh is okay, and it's nice not to have to worry about having a to shallow DOF. I didn't miss the extra reach of my sigma 17-70 at any time.

I have recently purchased the Sigma 24-60 also and am growing to like it. It replaces my kit 18-55mm and I don't miss the wide end (18-24) that much. I think the quality of the color rendering is what makes this lens stand out.

Of course the deep blue eyes of those beautiful children certainly help. Does everyone in Denmark have blue eyes? Nice photos.

there has been a rumour that it's a good lens, ofthe overlooked because of Tammy 28-75 and it's bigger cousin 24-70, but your series proves it's top drawer lens...

You're going to have a lot of fun with that lens...

It's an incredible lens, rivaled only by the DA*50-135 among the lenses I've owned. I have the 24-60 on one of my K200D's and the 50-135 on the other. Both of these lenses can be used wide open at all focal lengths. They also yield that "3D" effect, as seen in the 3rd pic above.

The 2 lenses make up the ultimate walk about combo if you ask me. I can pretty much use these 2 lenses for everything....street shooting, indoor events, outdoor events, portraits, etc. I also use the 24-60 to shoot flower close-ups. It doesn't focus as closely as my old 17-70, but it gets close enough for my use.

I raved about it here (there are some flower shots in this thread): https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/35721-sigma-ex...-60mm-wow.html

Yeah, I think I'm going to have fun with this as well. I'm probably going to use it in combination with the 50-135 as well.

Thanks. No. Not sure what the percentage is... a guess would be 30-40% I'm more gray/green then blue, but would probably be counted as blue eyed by somebody more used to brown eyes. Also, some variations start out blue and become less blue with age (like me, I was blond and blue eyes when I was a kid). But there's a specific gene that gives light blue eyes (my wife has it), and that's different... anyway, getting off-topic here...
