This is an awesome photograph. I imagine it was quite a challenge to get those eyes in such sharp focus. Another great job with those settings. Bumped up the ISO a bit and closed down one stop. You know where the sharpness lies. Very nice work. Thnx for posting.

Nicely done, Jer.

And Tony, Jer has figured out that in the animal world of photography, the eyes must be focused on to get sharp eyes.

I would have shot this manual focus, as I've found it very hit and miss on auto using that lens where grass/branches are included...how did you manage it Sailor as the result is perfect.

Thanks a bunch, Mar. And you're right - I aim right between the eyes!

Thank you again! As Mar indicated above, I usually focus on the eyes with center point AF, then reframe while holding the shutter halfway until I fire off the exposure. Seems to work for me.

And Mar, I am aware of that fact. That is why I complimented him on his work.

Thnx,

I'm glad you're aware of that fact Tony. Most people who shoot wild life are, but some people aren't. I could name a few but I won't.

And Mar, I am glad that you are glad. Again, I have been into photography for more that 40 years now, so I am not ignorant of important methods.

Thnx,

And I wasn't referring to you. In another thread here, not birds but another animal, I can't get them to focus on the eyes, no matter how may times, I say it. LOL

But I think we should let this thread get back on topic now, after all that's said and done, Jer did a good job of getting the bird's eyes in focus.

He does, indeed. The "Dirty Old Man" of the bird world.

Thanks so much. I've never seen this "stance" before or after, but this guy wasn't the only one posing like this.
