Are those shots sharepened at all or straight from the camera?

Excellent series, and not easy subjects to capture! 1,2, and 5 are faves.

They were all processed in ACR, sharpening was done in photoshop using Benjikan's technique to give them more "pop".

I haven't sharpened after resizing which I'm told is essential, but the seem pretty crisp to me anyway. I might give that a go later on.

Looking at images posted in this forum with some assumptions of sharpening, your edits seem better than many others.
I mean there are some sharpening edits you can look at and for a few reasons have a sense that some software was used but yours do look better than many others and I would have thought great glass was the reason for that.
Nicely done. Images like these make me wish I had done better and gone back the second day at our last air show.
I guess I will go in my backyard and take a picture of a tree instead of aircraft.
Thanks for posting.

Wait. You used a teleconverter on that 200mm lens to shoot aircraft? Bold. But these turned out clearer than my 25 year old 500mm, so there you go.

I glanced at the title and thought

"there's no such thing as a Pentax FA 18mm"

The pictures really cleared things up for me. nice series.

Thanks, I guess I just shy away from more excessive sharpening to make sure I don't overdo it. My Sigma 70-200 is the older non-macro version and it's amazingly sharp even wide open. Some say it's as good as the FA* 80-200. I found that if I stop down to f/4.5 there is little quality loss with the TC.

It's funny how you mention going back a second day, I would have loved to try a different on the second day but sadly I had uni commitments on the Saturday.

That is precisely my thinking. Don't get me wrong, I like a nice clean image sometimes but in other cases, the filtering and editing is not balanced and even distracting for me.
