Cahaba lily
Camera: k70 Photo Location: Hatchet Creek, Coosa County, Alabama

Paddled a couple miles upstream on Hatchet Creek in central Alabama to catch a glimpse of the blooming Cahaba lilies (sometimes referred to as the shoals spider-lily). These lilies only grow in shoals of fast moving rivers and creeks in Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. The river current wedges the seeds and bulbs into rock crevices in shoals, where they take hold, grow, and bloom into a magnificent flower. Pretty cool stuff.

Great series. Nicely done with the bright sunlight, truly very cool.

Great shots to visually tell your very good story of these lilies.
