Banksia
Lens: DFA 150-450 Camera: K3 Photo Location: Canberra, Australia ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/160s Aperture: F4.5

The Banksia is named after Joseph Banks, who sailed with Captain Cook to the East coast of Australia in 1770. There's many Banksia species. This one appears to be related to Banksia serrata.

Very interesting flower.
There's lots of "bottle brush" shaped flowers in Australia, including a whole range of plants called Bottlebrushes.

Minimum focus is quite long, but at 450mm it works quite well to photograph flowers that you can't get close enough to for the DFA 100 macro.

Thanks! I'll see if I can follow up this photo with some other Banksias that I photographed on the same day to give an idea of the variety.

Thanks Tony! I was fascinated by the spiral pattern in the flower structure.

Thanks! We have some bizarre plants, so I thought folks from other parts of the world may be interested.
