Macro fly
Posted By: Taff, 10-08-2008, 12:05 AM

I have decided to start trying to get profficient enough at macro so as to get some decent insect shots up on the wall, this was taken with a
sigma 28-90 @
f22
1/15 sec exposure
iso200
extension tube (home made)

With the wind blowing the thin stemmed flower and the fly refusing to stay put this was a frustrating exercise, took about a dozen shots of differant flies, this turned out the best.
A little soft obviously, but to practice I intend.

That's pretty good for hand held Taff. Get the tripod out though, it does save a lot of frustration.

Definitely a good capture considering all the adverse elements you were facing to capture it.

Gary, tripod doesn't help when there is wind. Higher shutter speed and more shots comes with better probabiility of a keeper

Very good taff.
I find tripod's to be a pain in the ass for insect macro's. I need to move around, and get over or under the bug on short notice.

Then I suggest you both dispense with the light meters and get a wind gauge instead.

I tried this later with some ladybugs, but with an extension tube there was no way it was going to be sharp, maybe im getting old and have parkinsons lol
