The colour of hope
Lens: Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Camera: K3 Photo Location: Nagasaki, Japan ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/80s Aperture: F9

This little girl climbed the many stairs of the Suwa Shrine in Nagasaki on the way home from school, shouted her prayer for her family's health and fortune at the shrine while bowing to the kami, then descended the stairs. She was a splash of colour, life and hope. I hope her wishes are granted.

I really like that she is off-center, it really ads to the impact of the figure.

Thank you both! This was such a moving scene, I felt that I needed to do something to really underscore how this little girl was a shining example in the greyness of the city.

Nice combination of B&W and colour. I would love to see a version where the girl is a bigger part of the frame though.

Thanks! I suppose I could crop it so that the girl is at the bottom left, removing the stairs and the buildings so mainly the torii are left, but I really wanted to shows the stairs to demonstrate the effort the little girl went to in order to pray to the kami for her family. It was a huge climb for a little girl, and there were more stairs behind me. I wanted to show respect for the hard work she put in at the end of a day at primary school.
