Pentax K-3 II Mounted SMC Takumar 200mm F4 (Red Wing Blackbird in Flight)
Lens: SMC Takumar 200mm F4 Camera: Pentax K-3 II Photo Location: Porter, IN ISO: 4000 Shutter Speed: 1/3200s Aperture: F4
Posted By: Lmcfarrin, 06-09-2019, 03:14 AM

I had the camera in Sv mode - I set ISO and camera auto sets shutter speed. The lightning became brighter from when I first set the ISO. Because of that, this shot was taken at 1/3200 shutter speed and I only needed 1/1600 shutter speed which wouldve reduced my ISO to approximately 2500 = less noise. The blackbird is so dark it absorbs alot of light, resulting in the degradation of the image when pushing dynamic range in post.

In short, I missed an opportunity at a better image because of setting the camera as mentioned.

Hmm. Now that is a fine looking bird. That color combination is pretty striking.

Very difficult bird to cqpture in flight - its skiddish. Cardinals are the hardest - very very untrusting.

However, I have a couple more captures as we text of the red wing blackbird. Will post today.

This is a fine photo.

These days, since I got my KP, I've been using TAv mode - that way I get the settings I want at lowest feasible ISO.
