Floyd Bennett Air Field Brooklyn
Posted By: jonnytheweb, 06-18-2019, 04:18 PM

Floyd Bennett Air Field in Brooklyn is part of the National Park service.
1 of the hangers houses the Historic Aircraft Restoration Program ( H.A.R.P) and is manned by volunteers.
If you ever have a chance to visit this fabulous old hanger and the aircraft within, you will not be disappointed!

Nice photo of this historic site.
All we need is some nice non-historic people.

It was my first visit. I plan to head back soon.
Pretty certain hardly anyone in NY knows its there.

Floyd Bennett Field is part of the Jamaica Bay Unit of the National Park Service Gateway National Recreation Area.
There's plenty of interesting stuff to see and do in and around Gateway, including for photographers.
That's one of the reasons I chose to relocate to Rockaway after we lost our old place in Superstorm Sandy.

Check out the National Park Service Gateway seasonal program guides here:

Don't forget to explore nearby Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Fort Tilden as well.
Both offer even more varied activities - and photo opportunities - than Floyd Bennett Field.
Highly recommended!

Chris

Nice capture of that old North American AT-6 Texan in restoration! Its name sake the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II is still the primary trainer for the USAF and The US Navy and USMC.

The basic trainer for the Royal Canadian Air Force is the CT-156 Harvard II, a variant of the Beechcraft T-6 Texan. The T-6 and its variants are flown by some ten air forces, so, like its predecessor in @jonnytheweb's photo, it's a fairly successful trainer.

Potential visitors should note that admission to all Gateway NRA parks is free.
HARP at Hangar B is also free; small donations towards their work are appreciated.
