How's the serenity?
Posted By: bonovox, 10-09-2008, 05:49 PM

Brooke and I decided to get up early (5:30am) last Friday and go for a drive down the coast. It gave me a chance to capture some early morning shots, and have some nice breakfast together.

Ah, very nice! There's nothing like being on the beach as the sky lightens and the sun crawls over the horizon, lobbing baits into a good gutter. Unless it's setting up your tripod and camera to record the scene.

But oh, those early morning starts! And I'm an hour and half inland!

Excellent. Love the colour/tone and the composition. Kinda wish the shrub was less dominate but that's nit picking.

I don't much enjoy fishing, but that looks like a very nice place to be.

Nice shot but if I could make a suggestion, composition wise...

Panning the camera slightly right to put the fishermen in the lower left corner would have produced a more pleasing shot. That would decrease the impact of the left-side bush and place the fishing poles and fishermen pointing/facing into the center of the frame.

Of course there is no way for me to know if there wasn't an even bigger bush to the right that you were avoiding... LOL

That is an image for a peaceful world.

You captured the image with excellent lighting ... and toning.

Thanks for the comments.
I was trying to use the position of the bush to balance out the bright corner - dark bottom left, bright top right.
Mike - I agree that panning a little to the right would have been better, but I was trying to minimise the amount of blown highlights, and panning to the right would have meant much of the top right section of the photo was too bright (that's where the sun was).

Here's a photo of the same beach from the top of Bald Hill, which overlooks it (and is a popular spot for hang gliders to launch from):

The first photo was taken from just in front of where the white van is parked in this photo.
