The "Big One" captured with a K3ii - the Andromeda Galaxy
Lens: 480 mm Telescope Camera: K3 II Photo Location: Ascheberg, Germany ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: Above 6s

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is 6 times larger than the Moon in the night sky but of course much fainter. This image was made from 56 single exposures of 90s exposure time at F/6.0 with my K3ii and a 480 mm refractor telescope (TS 80/480mm triplet apo).

The bright blotch below M31 is the galaxy M110. The blotch above M32 is the dwarf galaxy M32.

I never get tired of the awesomeness and mystery of Andromeda. This is one of the finest non-NASA images I've seen. Congratulations!

Very nice image. Hard to believe it is so big and yet we cannot see it (except a very faint smudge) with the naked eye.
