RC Buggy - Mid Flight

It can be quite challenging to shoot these radio controlled cars. They're only about a foot long and travel surprisingly quick.

and you made good choices to get the car 'still' while still showing lots of movement blur in the tires

Nice challenge! Catch-in-focus would probably come in handy.

That's a very good shot, the body is nicely focused. I guess you were using burst rather than panning.

I would try to pre-focus where I thought the car would be, and use high-speed shutter to take a bunch to get the one that made me happy. If you did this in one shot...impressive.

I manually focused on the area where I wanted to catch the cars mid-air, then tracked the cars on their approach and pressed shoot with the camera moving when I felt they were in the right spot. A bit hit and miss, but when timed right it works well.
