Southern Mockingbird
Lens: Pentax-DA 55-300mm Camera: K-30 ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F5.8

I watched birds like this do their mimicry thing all the way as we walked up from the River to the museum which used to be City Hall - then while my wife read one last display, I went outside and finally got a photo of a Southern Mockingbird. In Vicksburg MS, I figure this scene is about as Southern {it was hot!! too} as you get.

Thank you for your comment,

Yes, except possibly for the column behind him, that gives this a blah background, this is a very classic pose and picture of the South.

Nice shot! I love watching and listening to Mockingbirds. We have an abundance of them in Northern California, although a bit different variation than this one.

Thank you for your comment.

Yes, the ones in Calif seem to be somewhat different - we became familiar with the Southern ones during our trip to New Orleans, and can certainly understand why they became emblematic of the South.

I have a mockingbird on our property that will let me get very close without flying away, almost like it's posing. Nice shot.
