My First 1:1 Macro Shot
Posted By: Dewman, 10-07-2019, 01:41 PM

I was a US Navy photographer during the Vietnam days but it became just a hobby after I was discharged. I didn't get involved in digital photography until 2014 when I bought my first 35mm DSLR.... a superb little Pentax K2000 that served me well. I gave it to a friend of mine last month and it's still kickin' butt!

Anyway, I kept seeing all the wonderful macro shots here on PF and try as I might using all manner of methods OTHER than a macro lens, I didn't have much luck.... UNTIL I tried a reversing ring. This is my very first true, 1:1 macro shot, taken in August of 2014. I was so thrilled! I thought I was right up there with the big boys! But, for what it is, I'm STILL proud of it.

Yesterday, I had a member ask me about my opinion of macro lenses. He's like I was, trying to make do with something OTHER than a true macro lens. It CAN be done, but I advised him to just bite the bullet and buy a true, dyed in the wool, 1:1 macro.... like the Pentax-FA 100mm f:2.8 and never look back.

This is a fantastic result from your first attempt. I think macro is the most satisfying part of my photography because there are so many amazing subjects out there that are just not visible from our normal perspective.

Pretty Awesome! I found macro such a rewarding photography category. I've been using the Pentax 100mm macro this whole year and the quality of the lens always amazes me.
I too have a Pentax-FA 100mm f:2.8 macro. One heck of a good lens!

Hitting a home run at your first at-bat in your rookie year?? Dang! I have a copy of the Pentax-F 100mm f2.8 Macro. It makes me look like I know what I'm doing. Excellent lens.
