For a non-macro lens, I'd say you've done quite well!

A 35mm lens could be a bit hard to use for this . You earned some merit for a great try.

I'm a fan of dragonflies too. If you'd like to see some of my images go to: Photography then click on the "More" button. Some of the images are incorrectly labelled as Dragonflies when they are actually Damselflies (before I knew the difference).

Nice and appealing colours. I've tried to focus on the eyes, given that I find these fascinating because of the structure and reflections, so that may be a nice next step. If you want cheap macro, just buy some second hand extension rings, they're dirt cheap and allow for larger reproduction ratios.

Nice shot, but with DFA 100 macro it would be much more better.

I have an FA 100mm f/2.8 macro that I use a lot for macro work and also for portraits. It's a great lens. Most of the dragonfly images and other macro images that I posted on my website were taken with it (as well as several portrait shots). You won't be disappointed.

Indeed, a 100 mm macro is excellent can be had for very acceptable amounts of money and don't focus too much (pun intended) on getting an AF model. For macro photography a manual focus lens works just as well, especially if you use catch in focus. I'm very happy with my M100/4.

Sure... with 100mm macro do we need to move close to the subject like 50mm macro. I'm asking beacuse i never used a 100mm macro but have used 50mm f 2.8
For insects we cant always stay close to them.

The 100mm macro will allow you to be further from your subject to achieve the same magnification than if you were to use the 50mm macro.
