One day this late this Spring I was working in the front yard, when this guy landed on the front porch pillar - so I dashed inside, grabbed my KP, and took his photo {fortunately he was still there}

Great shot! It's the first time I see a butterfly with striped antennae.

I like the colour. Any idea what kind it is?

I like how the shadows from a plant above interact with the butterfly - it gives some extra depth.

Great shot of a Red Admiral, Vanessa atalanta. It is not really closely related to the other admiral butterflies so many bug people would rather call them Red Admirable which makes perfect sense since they should be admired.

Honestly, I noticed the striped antennae only after I loaded the photos in my desktop computer.

Yeah, I was hoping he would fly to a nearby bush so I could get a photo in a more natural setting ...... but when I left, he really left!
I was hoping this was just an 'insurance photo', but it was an only.

Nice shot. He was a very patient butterfly. For a non-nature setting, this came out very good with the shadows on the wall.

Wonderful shot! It's really not easy to take a good shot of such subjects. The silent and quick focusing of the 55-300 PLM must have helped. I'll have to upgrade from that Tamron 70-300 one day.

Yes, the PLM motor is very silent {a big "Thank You" from my birding wife}, and very quick, at least on the KP .... I highly recommend it.

And a big "Thank You" to you for responding to my post.

Thank you for commenting.

Yes, he was patient in giving me just enough time to get my camera.

Yes, he was very cooperative - usually they just fly off while I am getting my 'gear'.
