I love tawny frogmouths! I also like how, in the first two pics, each frogmouth took a turn at being wide-eyed, while the other squinted. And the close-up -and/or crop - is fantastic. Great pics!!

Technically, the Frogmouth isn't an owl, but a nightjar. One of the key differences is that nightjars catch food with their mouths, while owls use their talons.
It's cool to catch them during the day!

That was my fault. I had owl in the initial description but corrected that in my second post.
I didn't know they were called nightjars, so cheers for that.

I meant that they're called Tawny Frogmouths and they are part of the same order as the nightjars (ok, they are technically different families within the same order - Podargidae and Caprimulgidae within Caprimulgiformes). The important distinction being that they're not in the same order as Owls.
