Hooded Merganser

I cropped to this orientation because I preferred the look of the water over the conventional landscape orientation.

Thanks Starhunter! I was sitting on the bank and they kept getting closer, I would guess 10-15 yards. It is cropped a bit, primarily to change perspective, but also to bring it in a little closer. This is more of a neighborhood pond, so the wild ducks become more acclimated to people going by. If you sit there long enough they keep coming closer.

I had to stop and look at it for a few minutes before I realised what I was looking at, but it was a few minutes well spent. First off the effect of the water gives an almost abstract feel to the image, which I guess set the expectation. The bird itself is stunning but the bird plus its reflection are fantastic. Well done

Thanks so much Liney! I was fortunate that the color in the water matched perfectly with the bird's wing feathers.

We have that happen with ducks around us too. Thanks for sharing!
