On the road to Lothlorien
by RobGeraghty, on Flickr

Not far from Queenstown are locations where they filmed many scenes the The Lord of the Rings movies. The photo above was close to an area where they filmed scenes for Lothlorien.

The Gladden Fields, near Arrowtown.

The ford of Bruinen, where Gildor and the power of Elrond was replaced by Arwen.

Treble Cone. Scenes for The Flight to the Ford and chasing the orcs across Rohan were filmed here.

The gorge used for the Argonath. Although this is marked as where it was shot, I actually suspect that some camera angles were shot from the bridge where people bungy jump into the gorge.

Nice shots of "Middle Earth"! Thanks for posting.

For anyone who is a Lord of the Rings fan, the extended version's of the dvds are the ones to get. Quite a bit of added material and fills in some gaps from the original edit.

The New Zealand landscape was just made for Middle Earth. Interesting to see the views from this perspective.

Thanks, I agree! There's a book which tells you all about the locations, although the GPS coordinates aren't very accurate.

Thanks! It's a lucky coincidence that the movies were shot in NZ because I agree that it's ideal. Everything from high snowy mountains to idyllic green rolling hills like England (which the Shire was meant to be).
