Nice shot, Dewey! I keep telling myself that I can hold off on buying a Pentax 100mm Macro. But then, I keep coming back and checking out your Macro shots! You're only making my G.A.S worse :-) Well done!

Thanks, Reality_Check. You'll just have to trust me, but if you don't have a FA-100mm f:2.8 macro, get one and you'll NEVER look back.

Dewman, the answer is likely obvious, but I'm curious about your choice of ISO 800. Did you select that primarily to ensure a fast shutter speed?

Good question, Lambic. As a general rule, I always keep both my K-50's set on an ISO of 800. The K-50 has proven to me that it can handle it just fine without producing any discernible, objectionable noise that I can detect with my old, myopic eyes. I always shoot in aperture priority. I gives me the overall control of my images I want. DOF is usually more important to me than shutter speed and f:8 will USUALLY provide the DOF I want. With that being said, IF I'm shooting something that I think might be used for more than my own amusement, I'll drop down to as low an ISO as possible, trying to get as much "quality" from the image as possible.

Way back in 1964, when I was in the US Navy Photography "A" School in Pensacola, Florida..... one of the first "rules" of photography they taught us was, "Set it on f:8.... and be there!" I realize that that was a very different time and technology has advanced more than we ever thought possible, but as simplistic as it might sound, it's actually some very good advice, even in the digital world.
