Tropical woodpecker

This is an extreme crop from a shot taken with my 55-300mm PLM and KP of a Woodpecker in a palm tree outside our gust room in Punta Cana.

Nice shot! It looks like your bird isn't too happy to have been caught. Too slow, birdie, for the PLM!

Your photo reminds me of this humorous tv ad that incorporating a photographer attempting to photograph the Ivory Billed Woodpecker that has been running on our Mediacom Cable the past month.

And reminds me of this video of the extinct Ivory Billed Woodpecker film clip from 1935.

The last universally accepted sighting of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker was in 1944. Multiple sightings after 1944 have persisted, but apparently the photographer in the TV ad is the reporting party.

Reminds me of an old southern phrase, "red headed woodpecker".
