Factor in the quietness of today's C-130, the cutting-edge night vision electronics it carries, the devastating weapons it carries and the preciseness they can put the rounds on target from miles away... AND then realize they can do it at night!

If you're in their sights and you're not scared, you need to pull up your turban so you can see!

Used to take out whole Guatemalan villages in a single pass. I've read about the terror caused to villagers, but it's the first time I've seen one. Thanks for posting.

A close friend's brother was a spotter for AC130s back in the day. He said it was like watching the hand of god turn over an entire field all at once.

I still can't believe they can run a side mounted howitzer on these things. Great capture

Not only do they pack a howitzer around with them, they can put that big, 33 lb. high explosive round in your lap from 7 miles away.... at night.... when you can't even see or hear them. And they can fire them as fast as 10 rounds per minute.

The germans had a bomber in WW II which had a an anti tank cannon mounted in the nose

Really affected the planet's flying when fired though

The US Army Air Force did the same, throwing a 75mm in the nose of some B-25's. The nose would buck when firing

my bad the weapon was mounted under the nose of the plane not in the nose

QuoteQuote:
The Henschel Hs-129B-3 with a 75mm cannon, introduced in October 1944, was even more unmanageable. The weight and bulk of the gun made the aircraft difficult to handle, and the weapon’s recoil caused an instant deceleration of 10 mph. Some success was claimed with the Hs-129B-3, though the reduced charge that had to be used in each round produced only three-quarters of the muzzle velocity of the same gun when fitted in a tank. At any rate, only about 25 of these would-be giant killers were ever built.

At first glance, you might think the Henschel Hs 129 was the perfect ground-attack airplane.

Twin engines. A heavily-armored cockpit that protected the pilot from small-arms fire. The aircraft even eventually had the heaviest and most powerful forward-firing cannon ever fitted to a production military aircraft during World War II.

The Hs 129 was supposed to be the Luftwaffe’s ultimate aerial tank-killer, dealing death from above to Soviet T-34s on the Russian front. In other words, it would be easy to see it as a World War II-forerunner of today’s formidable A-10 Warthog.

There was just one problem: By all accounts, the Hs 129 was a questionable performer. In fact, the original Hs 129 A-1 series was so bad that the Luftwaffe refused to accept any of the A-1s for service.
