Milky Way?
Posted By: mahanpots, 10-21-2019, 05:30 PM

It was a clear night the other night, and I took this 10-second exposure, tweaking it a bit in Photoshop. I believe it's the Milky Way.

Really an Impressive shot, I've never tried astrophotography, the KP might suit you well for this!!

The only problem with July/August/September in Connecticut is the level of haze and humidity in the atmosphere. I'll see what I can do if I get a good night over the next week and a half. Thanks for the advice!
Haze and humiditiy are definitely issues. If you miss it this year, it starts to rise again in February very early in the morning (15-20 minutes before astronomical twilight, 1.5 hrs or so before actual dawn). You are further south than I am as well, so you might have luck in November.

The EXIF data from my first attempt at photographing the Milky Way shows the last picture was taken on 3/18/19 at 5:23 A.M. I've gotten up early before; I can do it again!

I've got my new KP, but the skies have been overcast. Oh well, maybe one night soon.

March! Sounds about right for the time. Feburary is even earlier. My attempt on the 10th has the exif pinned weird as I think my clock was off but I remember it being closer between 4:30-5. Exif says 6:20am but I know that is completely wrong.

My camera sometimes seems to be confused by the Daylight Saving Time transitions. It always pays to check your camera's time immediately afterwards and adjust if necessary to get accurate EXIF data.

Nice shot. I love astro images.

Also a bit of light pollution here, but donít have to venture too far to get a bit of darkness. My mother-in-law lives in the middle of nowhere though, so I try to get some Astro shots when we visit her!
