International Harvester's Last Harvest.
Lens: Pentax-FA 50mm f:2.8 Macro Camera: K-50 Photo Location: Idaho ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/750s Aperture: F11

I was driving around in a rural area of the valley and I came upon this old, worn out, abandoned International Harvester truck. It looked like it had had a long, hard life. I thought the image provoked a second look, so to speak.

An old cornbinder as we used to call them at the family farm. We had one, early '50's, Black Diamond inline six, 4 speed manual...not much in the way of synchromesh..used to double clutch to avoid graunching. It had been a municipal dump truck originally, which my FIL had bought at auction and then converted to a grain truck.

It was a tough old bird, that IH, that could handle heavy loads with little complaint. I don't know where it is now, but even though I haven't driven it for over 40 years, I would love to give it one more run.

Nice pix, like the partial shot composition and those broken front windows (target practice)...have an interesting look, particularly the passenger window's unique pattern.

BTW, I've spent a lot of time over many years driving down country back roads, with camera, looking for interesting pix and just enjoying getting out and about in the countryside. Both up here and down in North Dakota.

Nice job.

Great capture! It always make me sad to see these old wrecks, abandoned and rusting away; a bit like us humans getting on in age! TFS.
Best.

Superb capture, Dewey, that old truck has seen a lot!! Was that tree growing up through the bed? Looks like it has been used for target practice too!

I began driving tractors and trucks in the fields of San Joaquin Valley when I was 12 years old. By the time I was 16, I was driving a 10-wheeler, filled to the brim with tomatoes and hauling them to the cannery. And I know all about the double clutching Les was talking about. We had an old IH, pretty much like the one in the photo and it was a real beast. Like driving an anvil with wheels, but it always got the job done without a hitch. And yep, Fox and Crow..... I feel like that old truck a lot lately.
