Ready For Takeoff - Sort Of
Lens: Sigma 135 f2.8 Pantel Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Everett, Washington ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F5.6

A Boeing 787 preparing to do a takeoff abort test. They taxied up to the runway, lined up for takeoff, went all out down the runway then halfway down hit the brakes hard and stopped the plane, aborting the takeoff roll.

I actually cropped this image from a larger one, shown below.

The feel of the top one makes me think of batman or something ominous. I guess the wings and the shape of the windows.

Nice view. Good to know they have tested this procedure if they ever need it.

I believe every airplane undergoes many tests both during manufacturing, and during pre-delivery shakedown before being handed over to the airline customer.

When I drove big trucks I hauled raw materials, aluminum and titanium. All of it had certification of origin and testing documentation that accompanied the shipment. Some of that material actually went to non destructive testing labs before getting forwarded to the next step in the manufacturing process, and then of course there was testing after each step of manufacturing.

Now that I actually work on the assembly line I see even more of what goes into creating one of these magnificent machines. Again, every step is done to a specification, checked and rechecked, then signed off before moving to the next stage of machining and assembly.
