My try at Moon
Posted By: Atindra, 10-17-2008, 12:26 PM

I was feeling Inferiority complex with my 50-200 mm lens that its reach is not much for shooting moon.
But I just took a shot tonight. I guess its OK but not so great. Its cropped heavily too.

I'll try to improve, but is higher zoom lens inevitable for moon shooting?

It does help considerably. This is with my 500mm.

With very little crop. Have to try it with my 2x tele-converter on tripod.

I have never taken a decent shot of the moon. Yours looks pretty good for 200mm. I always find moon lint.

Your shot is quite nice and I've seen similar from 500 mm lenses. I am thinking for DA 55-300 mm lens.

@ Mark
Can you post exif data for your image? What I experienced is shooting full moon is difficult with compared to half one.

Holy cow... that was taken last Christmas eve... ISO 100, Shutter 3/10th, Soligor 450mm @ probably f11, with a 3X converter... effective f33... I'm guessing because of the slow shutter. The post before was a crop. Here is the original resized only.
