So you mean, the sitting area used to be fully glass? If so...bring back the dome!

Yes, people sitting in the dome had a view like being in an automobile, at minimum.
For a car like one of these, the dome ran the entire length of the car.
I'm not sure why Amtrak retired the domed cars and failed to build any more.

The domes have good A/C systems, so the only issue with direct sunlight is that it puts more strain on the generators in the locomotive - more electricity going to A/C would leave less for the motors that provide propulsion.
