Painted Lady looking at You
Lens: Pentax DA* 300mm f/4 Camera: Pentax K-3 II Photo Location: Ottawa, Ontario ISO: 320 Shutter Speed: 1/160s Aperture: F13.5

In September, I spent several days photographing these backyard visitors as they probed our flowering Sedum.

Nice! I chased one of those for 30 minutes one day trying to get a shot and went home empty handed. :P

Excellent shot! Butterflies are super subjects when posing a bit but they've given me the runaround more times than I care to remember! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I find that they are difficult subjects when they're feeding during the day -- they move frequently, they exercise their wings, and foliage often blocks a full view. Early morning is often the best time, when they emerge from their nighttime location and start to warm themselves in the sun.

I set up my camera every day for about a week in September and managed to get a few good shots.

Painted Ladies were one of our more frequent visitors to our garden this year. We planted a Sedum this year as well. Attracted a lot of different pollinators. I like the angle and composition on this one. Nice job.
