I looked at buying a 2002 before settling on the Datsun 240Z instead for road racing. The BMW is a nice car, quite competitive even today.

I test drove a new 2002 in '70 or '71 - I loved the car, but my wife objected to its styling. Also, at that time, BMW was almost a "boutique" brand in the states, and I was concerned that dealers and service would be pretty thin on the ground. So . . . . . . . I passed it up, but that test drive left a big impression, and I've been driving Bimmers now for 16 years.
