Beautiful lighting Todd. I think this would look really nice framed.

I agree. Fine detail for a shot taken at f20. My Pentax-F 100mm f2.8 Macro is very sharp at wider apertures, but I've never tried to close down that far. Your shot inspires me to try.

Thank you. I have rarely closed a lens down this far, but I decided to do a progression of shots starting more open and then stopped at f20. I may be wrong, but I assume the image degrades starting at the edges and corners, and I knew that with nothing but black around the perimeter that I might be okay in the center of the image which turned out to be the case.

I'll have to read up again on diffraction, circle of confusion, etc. I assume that the sharper the lens is at wider apertures, the farther you have to stop down before diffraction becomes noticeable. Since I usually crop my 10MP or 16MP images to fit my computer monitor pixel dimensions, your idea about center sharpness would be a great help. At close focusing and macro subject distances the DOF for 100mm lenses is tiny, and this has been a problem on some shots that were fine otherwise. I'll have to shoot a series starting at f16 going down to f32 to see where the usable range is for my lens.

That is a good idea, particularly for macro, as you said. I sometimes do focus stacking, but the results are not always good.
