Is that an evolution in reliability from the Alfa to the Beetle?

I'm a beetle guy, Had three...'61, '64 , '69'...all Type 1 Deluxe. The first two had 1200cc boxer fours....the '69 had a 1500cc...53.5 hp, according to the owner's manual. Took it to the drags...best 1/4 mile time of 19.4 seconds...@ 68.5 mph. I was a young guy and it took quite a beating...one problem only...the 2nd gear syncromesh ring had to be replaced...other than that, my little German bug ran like a Swiss watch.

I know the Alfa Romeo is an expensive car...but given the choice I wouldn't mind having another '69 VW Type 1, 1500cc Beetle in pristine condition, other than the Alfa. Sentimental reasons ...maybe...but put some Taper Tips on a '69 V-Dub and I'm hooked...again. Either car would be a second car...we have tough winter conditions out here on the Canadian prairies...and these would be summer drivers only.
