I finally won something
Lens: DA 15 Camera: K3-II Photo Location: Saskatchewan, Canada ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F6.3
Posted By: Glen, 11-06-2019, 02:57 PM

I posted this on 500px and won a one year paid membership. I know that hundreds of others probably won too but it's still a winner. The image is one of hundreds or maybe thousands of abandoned to semi-abandoned churches on the rural Canadian prairies. It's mostly due to people moving from the land to the cities or other provinces which is because farms keep getting larger.

Very nice shot...like the angle and the 'patina' on the wooden slats on the church. Looks like the field was freshly mowed around the old church.

We cross the prairies ..all three of them... a number of times a year. I always keep my eye open. Remember once on the Yellowhead highway a few years back....we saw a big cow moose...munching contentedly in the middle of a field of canola. Got the pix, not too far away was an old Ukrainian Orthodox church (domed)....got that shot too. Think it was just past the Manitoba border...a bit into Saskatchewan.

Congrats on your award.

Thank you. If you venture north of the Yellowhead you will find hundreds of abandoned and rarely used Ukrainian Orthodox and Ukrainian Catholic churches. It's One of my favourite photo subjects.Click here if you want to see some

Yes it sure is. I can't provide for the family by selling my one year membership but it does put a smile on my face and there's nothing wrong with that. Thanks for the kind comment.
