Northern Lights with the KP
Lens: Samyang 14 2.8 Camera: Pentax KP Photo Location: Iceland
Posted By: jk05x, 11-07-2019, 09:20 AM

Hi friends, I recently visited Iceland for the first time and was lucky to be there when the Northern lights were visible. Being the first time I quickly realized its not that easy setting up for the shots especially with the Samyang not focusing to infinity. Anyways, it was a wonderful experience and lessons learned.

About the lights, I remember seeing mostly faint green with my eyes and the photos on first glance looked mostly green too. But playing with it in lightroom and using the dehaze option, there seems to be a lot of purple and magenta. Is this normal or is it too much editing?

Will be happy to hear from those who know more about it.

I think it looks nice. Once of these days I'll get out there to shoot.

There are time when the aurora produces colors that are beyond imagination. You shots are not over processed. Looking good.

While the lights are rarely visible here, I've never seen them. I hope to one day be able to see the lights in person, but for now I'll just have to be content with photos. Luckily, I get to see some pretty amazing ones like these. Thank you!
