Flying South
by RobGeraghty, on Flickr

The Sydney to Melbourne route is one of the busiest flight paths in the world. When the conditions are right, the normally unnoticed flights make clouds. It adds a bit to sunset when it's a drought!

Great piece of work, Rob. Some poor folk look on vapour trails with suspicion, but you see beauty and a good photo opportunity!

I wonder what people would think about cars if they produced vapour trails? Thanks! I like the perspective of the converging lines, and you can see Virgin chasing Qantas across the sky.

Thanks! For some reason of geography, we get lots of nice sunsets in Canberra.

Given that we both live in parts of Australia where the winters are cooler than in others, I'm sure we're equally familiar with motorcar exhaust vapour on chilly mornings, but I do take your point!

Yes, I had in mind cars leaving long vapour trails behind, rather than a bit of steam around the exhaust. Although the feature I see most often in Canberra is big clouds of carbon soot produced by diesel cars.

Thank you! The super-wide Sigma was handy, too.
