Mr. American Robin

Today was a cold Indiana Autumn day; now the leaves from trees and bushes are dropping almost like rain. Today, for the first time since last Spring, our yard had one bird after another, even a squirrel .... perhaps to see if I had to the feeder up {no, we'll wait a couple of weeks until it is clear that they have a hard time feeding themselves}. This Robin sat on the bush still full of berries, but he spent more time staring at the den window than eating berries. Perhaps he could see me and my camera on the other side - but I think more likely that he was watching my buddy Leila, the black cat, who wanted so much to go out and play with them.

Thank you for your comment.

If he still has to fly South, he will work off the fat in the flight.
If he is destined to be one of those said to stay here, he'll need the fat over the few months.

Thank you for your comments.

I have to admit that I have not seen a Robin between Thanksgiving and the return of life in Spring, so I donít have actual knowledge - despite my feeding birds during that time - of even one Robin sticking around during the dead of Winter .... but Iíll keep hoping to see one.

Thank you also for your comment.

I had taken a photo of just the Winter Berry bush, but it looks so much better with a bird in it also. Unfortunately, the berries become ripe at about the time most of the birds are already heading South, so I'm not convinced that many of the berries are consumed - as I commented above, this particular bird spent more time looking than in eating.
