Yeah, I'd really like the Pentax 150-450 for this. The telescope is nice but it isn't perfect to use for this kind of thing; it's simply not designed for it. It's a pain to focus and no controllable aperture (it's always wide open at 5.9). With this, it also makes the depth of field very narrow. Not noticeable in this shot so much as I'm further from the eagles (about 2x the distance) than I was with my owl shot, but still in some of the frames, parts of the tree were even out of focus.
As well, the fringing isn't the best, as it is only a doublet. But: it lets me get the shot, so it's 100% better than nothing.

Lovely shot! You managed that camera/scope combo well. TFS.
Best.

Yes !
I almost rent a 150-450 a week to try shooting wild animals in holidays... (but eventually changed holidays for something else, without wild animals...), probably not the next lens I have in mind for the moment, but maybe one day...

Thanks again all
The telescope is definitely a challenge but so worth it over getting nothing. I'd never be able to get an inflight shot with it though.

Nicely done! I agree with Todd. Couldn't have asked for a better perch for it to be on.

Thanks! Maybe it has something to do with complementary colours (I need to look at the colour wheel) but this is the second image this year with this sort of colour scheme and it is also my second favourite shot of the year.
