It was followed by a cloud that looked like the underneath of a breaking wave. Strange skies!

Cool shots, Rob. The ominous look of the clouds raises one's hackles just a bit. Great effect - this is the kind of sky that was unwelcome when we were sailing!

Those are some wild looking clouds, particularly the last one. Good shots.

Thanks Jer! I can well imagine you'd keep a weather eye on things. I spent a lot of time in estuaries on boats as a kid (not sailing boats, sorry!) but I really don't like being out at sea. Nine metres seas across Bass Strait put me off that!

Thanks Todd! I was hoping for rain, but there was none.

Uh... The cloud in the second shot is definitely -unfriendly-. I would have run for my life (after taking a photo, naturally) if I were you. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! Although it looked threatening, nothing bad eventuated. The storms to look out for in Australia are shelf clouds which feature a low layer that looks like the top of a breaking wave. They tend to have destructive winds.

Thanks! It was unusual. I'm not sure why we get such a variety of cloud behaviour in Canberra.
