Backcountry skiing in Finnish nature park
Lens: DA limited 15mm Camera: K5-II Photo Location: Finland
Posted By: jochenmaas, 12-06-2019, 03:03 PM

This photo was taken during our backcountry skiing expedition in really cold temperatures (-30degrees °C during the day, -40°C at night). My pentax camera worked without any problem at -30°C, but at night it started to refuse taking shots sometimes which is totally normal I think at -40°C. The low sunlight during the whole day in north Finland is so magical!

Fantastic shot! The low sun can be a challenge, but it can really be your friend if you work together with it.

Just beautiful, I'm jealous!

Were you guys using light Nordic gear?

The two 'trunked' small tree in the foreground looks like it is mimicking the skier .

Beautiful shot...perfect shadow and light.

That one tree looks a bit like a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Nice shot.

Great shot. You have perfect placement for your light source and the shadows it makes. I could imagine some of those trees coming to life.

You as the photographer managed to hide your tracks perfectly.....no imprints in the foreground, thus a perfect shot of being alone with the stillness is captured. Sweet.!!

Stunning shot! Love the low-angle light in this image. My wife's maternal family is Finnish. Can't wait to visit someday! Thanks for sharing!

I showed this landscape to our Vallhund....
He said "Take me there !"

You've made him very restless... Great Shot. well executed.

A lone figure in a surreal landscape of strange white shapes - all looking as if they are about to come to life!! As Sight1 said - you have also captured the stillness of this world.

Truly beautiful piece of photography.
