I was on assignment and they gave me almost too much freedom of movement around the Leopards. My ears are still ringing after all these years from the muzzle blast from the main battle guns! The Leopards were on loan to Canada from the Germans and still won the contest.

Didn't they tell you to use plugs and that you'd had to keep your mouth open to equalize the pressure from the soundwaves?

I'm assuming this photo was taken before Canadian Forces left the NATO base in Lahr, but it wasn't the last time Germany loaned Leopard tanks to Canada. Canada's battle tanks are all Leopards, most of which were since upgraded to Leopard 2s. (Not sure if they're standard as 2A4 or 2A6?)
Makes sense that this is also the tank they have been loaned on occasion as well, as it's what the CAF are familiar with.

Great pix. Not too far away in Shilo, Mb., Canada...the German Army at one time, used this area for training...using their tank, the Leopard I believe. Shilo has a desert area.

I was in fact briefed on how to minimize the effects of expanding air for the ears but looking through the finder I'd be distracted and of course, it depended on where you were a the moment of the blast.

Great image! Plugs and muffs help but if you are near the front of the vehicle when firing, you could be in trouble. "What did you say?!"
