Wider view, Arches Nat'l Park, Utah
Posted By: RICHARD L., 12-14-2019, 02:23 PM

This is a wider view of the detail picture of a "mishap waiting to happen" published previously. This gives a better understanding of the scale of the landscape.

I wonder how it shifted over in the first place, perhaps earth tremors over time?

Anyway it's a topical capture leaving the viewer with an open ended question as noted, when will it fall? we need to know!

Questions, questions ...

If there is nobody around when it falls, will it make a huge noise or not ????

If it falls on tourists, is the National Park Service liable or is it an "Act of God" ????

LOL !

The real "Balanced Rock" is at least 20 times the size of this "pebble". I posted a picture of it here not long ago.

Wonderful pics, both of ‘em! I wonder if freeze/thaw cycles might be involved with the rock sliding off. A humongous version of “frost heave”. Each cycle might only shift it a tiny fraction of a millimeter, but over time it would add up. Add in the occasional tremor, and….

Because of Covid, I can't visit Arches, so maybe the rock has already fallen ... lol ! Anyway, it will probably fall some winter night in cold weather if there is a slight earthquake when nobody is around. Thank you for your comments, y'all.
