Cactus and sea: Water; so near, yet so far

Kind of a contradiction. Cactus on dry land, at the edge of the sea.

Not at all contradictory - it all depends on whether plants have water within reach of its roots.

I have a similar photo of cacti within sight of Lake Erie, at Point Pelee NP, Canada.

Nice shot. Water in the sea does not mean water on the land, There are places in Peru, Namibia and Australia where desert meets the sea and it rarely ever rains.

Yup! That's the case here. It doesn't get much rain. Plus the terrain doesn't hold water long.
