Night SpaceX JCSAT Launch from Cocoa Beach, FL

SpaceX JCSAT Launch from Cocoa Beach, FL · **2 Likes**

This was a 5 minute long exposure from tonight's SpaceX launch as viewed from Cocoa Beach Florida. Unfortunately, the cloud coverage obscured most of the rocket trail, but some popped through, and the effect through the clouds came out pretty cool. This was my first rocket launch shoot with my K1 (although I've shot plenty of other launches in the past).

If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them!

That's so cool! Is that using the built in AstroTracer function? (I have a K-50 so I have no such luck).

I love the colours too and the fact that you're on a beach with a rocket going overhead.

No astrotracer. Just a sturdy tripod.

I prefer the cloud coverage, its gives it a great sense of "breaking through" on its way through the atmosphere.

Gah, I need to try to photograph a launch like this, but I just don't live close enough to a launch site to get one!

So Cal.

Vandenberg is an "option", but it's about 3 hours away and their launch times aren't convenient for a cubicle monkey who is also a dad.
