The Cruiser
Lens: FA 600 F4 Camera: K1 Photo Location: Detroit River ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/8000s Aperture: F7.1

Testing the tracking ability of the K1.
Worked really well.
This guy flew by me at a high rate of speed, used the 9 grouping focus.
This image was cropped in the K1.
Some detail is lost.
I’m sure if I took the time to crop it with a program, the result would be much better.
Not bad though for an in camera crop.

A bonafide fine BIF photo sir . Trying to pan a bird flying 60+mph is not easy using a large lens .

Well done even if it does lack some detail. Caught at the right moment.

Great caption to me for an in camera crop! Is the FA* fast focusing on the K-1? Do you have a fast focusing lens like the DFA 150-450 to tell us how they compare? Thank you for your feedback and your images!

No I do not have the 150 to 450.
To tell you the truth, I’m a little gun shy on new Pentax glass.
I have two sdm zooms that I’ve converted to screw drive. Thanks to everyone on this forum for the info in solving this problem!
I went to a camera show in Toronto sponsored by Henry’s.
I talked to Pentax at the booth, and the two gentlemen there, laughed at how I won the 1 in a million sdm failure lottery. Only I wasn’t laughing after the money I dropped on the glass.
I’m sure everyone on this forum feels the same way about sdm.
Getting to your question, the 600 does focus quickly, stays on target but if it hit the island with all the trees across from me, then a little hunting occurred. Can’t complain, been with Pentax since 1986 and all of my glass works well with the K1.
If the K1 had faster FPS and a faster buffer, it would be perfect!
