Tab, Indiana
Lens: Pentax-DA 18-135 DC Camera: Pentax KP

Around here, Autumn was very strange. On Halloween, for example, the day was cooler than it would turn out to be on our {brown} Christmas. Hearing that the temperature was going to drop 20 degrees F - in other words, down near normal - my wife and I went off on a drive. We came across the tiny town of "Tab" - population 50, with one employer .... this grain elevator.

I don't believe I would want to switch rails right there.

They do it - but very carefully.

I like the shots, particularly the first one. Just the right 'feel' to it.

Really surprised that there is no Graffiti on those large canvas silos, the cop in town must be a tough Uncle or Brother, population of 50, every-one knows every-one, you would probably get caught. Lonely looking place that is...Cheers !!

Excellent shots of small-town Midwest. This could be my grandparent's hometown in North Dakota just as easily as Tab, Indiana.

I am guessing it is used only during harvest season.

Thank you for the compliment.

The second is one I just took. The first one is one of those I move all around the scene trying to find the right perspective, and I guess it worked this time.

I can't claim any credit for that - the sun made a rare appearance {through a partial break in the clouds} just as I was ready to take the photograph.

I'm not sure the town has any kids of the right age to be painting; there is a monument to the school that was {my wife said it looks like a tombstone}. I would guess that if did have a school-age kid, s/he would be bused a number of miles - and it doesn't happen very often, which is why they don't bother to do it locally.

This is an unusual year for weather, but still wet. Around here, the "dryness" you are seeing is really "death looking at cold". The plants die off at the first freeze {Halloween this year - usually a few weeks earlier} and then the earth stays brown until Spring - usually late March or early April. We usually don't see as much of it, but precipitation has been in form of rain instead of snow.
