The charm of the Waddensea just before and after sunset
Lens: Samyang 24mm Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Moddergat and Koehool ISO: 100
Posted By: Fries, 01-02-2020, 03:46 PM

I pounced on some free time to explore two special moments on the flats and the shore of the Waddensea in two locations. The first one is at low tide at a place called Moddergat which translates to Mudhole in English... I was about too leave when the sky turned red. The second location is a place called Koehool where I've been experimenting with shooting at night. The light on the other side is of a lighthouse on the island of Terschelling; the Brandaris. It is the oldest still working lighthouse in the Netherlands and was build in 1594. I stacked 50 photo's to achieve this; each with a shutter speed of 15 seconds and ISO6400 at F2.8.

Cheers,

Remco

Wonderful images and they inspire me to cross the Afsluitdijk a bit more often than I have until now.

The first image, great color and composition.

The second image, is a great example of continued experimentation to get to an image you want. Great technique!

Great images, both

These are both some very great images. Love the glow in the second image and the colors of the first are just wonderful.

A cracking pair of images, I don’t know that I’d have patience to do the second one.

Thanks Mikey! If you do cross the Afsluitdijk and would like to have some pointers for locations along the Waddensea let me know.

Terrific shots both. Nice work.
Thank you! I am glad they worked out the way they did. Especially the second one because it was a very humid evening.

Dave, thank you! It helps that I know the area very well. And I practiced quite a lot for the second picture; both in getting the right kind of shots and learning how to process them.

John, thank! Nature provides the raw material and I try to make use of it the best way I can.

Thanks Peter! I used a star app on my iPhone to find the most interesting part of the sky and matched that with a known location for my second photo. For the first one you just have to know when the tide is out and know the area well. Not every part of the seabed is safe to do this kind of thing.

Thanks! I know. My patience was wearing thin. So for part of the shoot I watched tv on my iPhone...

I'm in love with the first image. I don't think I ever saw a sunset shot with such colors. Wonderful dynamic range!

2 magnificent images here. The colors of the first are stunning, and the composition is so peaceful - my eyes just don't want to leave. The second has excellent earth and sky components that were well worth your time. Thanks.
