The splash of mauve (purple? lilac??) caught my eye, and then all the sharp edges.

I didn't know that you had thistles in Australia like we have here in the US. They are beautiful when they bloom and are very attractive to bees.

Yep, they can invade back yards like weeds (surprise - they are weeds!), but, like many weeds, they are attractive when in flower.
