I have been a Pentax user since 1969 and only a little over a year ago decided to buy in to Nikon bodies in order to be able to buy the lenses that I wanted. I still think that Pentax bodies are outstanding when it comes to ergonomics and configurability. IBIS is also great. Nikon has a little bit better AF but I miss being able to save settings in USER positions.
The K-1 and the D810 gives very similar IQ. The one thing that is better on D810 is the back AF button. When I hold it my thumb just ends up on that button. This is not the case with The K-1, so for birding with back button focusing D810 is a huge improvement. Pros and cons for booth brands.
If Tamron and Sigma had released their new lines for Pentax I would never have bought a Nikon. Getting a couple of Sigma and Tamron lenses has made it much more fun to take photos so I'm using Nikon a lot more than Pentax right now.
