A few food shots
Posted By: pop4, 10-27-2008, 02:38 AM

Haven't shot much in a while, here's a few from dinner the other night.

The foreground/background object are probably a tad bit distracting, but I didn't want to upset my dining companions too much by moving everything around; I also think it works in that it gives the feeling of being in the middle of a dinner...or I might just be rambling.

Comments and criticism, suggestions, etc are appreciated.

They're very nice and with a bit more control over the situation they would have made excellent menu shots.

Thanks, though I actually like the middle of a meal feeling as opposed to a menu shot feel.

I'm with Gary, you have made me hungry. I think these are well done. You must have corrected for the lighting.

Hey Pop4, Just wondering about the WB setting you used in the shots. It looks like the lighting at the table was tungsten and the WB was left to AWB or set to a selection other than tungsten. If this was intentional I can support the look and feel that the images have (like a bright candle light illumination). If not, a tungsten setting for the WB would have revealed a greater colour range. Either way the shot would have an audience. I am always interested in the idea behind the image and what options or choices a photographer made to move in a particular direction, or to achieve a certain look.

I am off to rummage through the fridge like a Spring time bear for a snack before bed....... thanks for that.

Spyglass, you're right about the lighting being tungsten, and because I'm lazy, all I did was leave the setting to AWB. When I was going though the photos though, I found that I actually liked the warm mood and feeling that the AWB left me, so I left the WB as is; changing to tungsten doesn't give the photos that same warm fuzzy feeling.
Although looking back, the photos are probably a tad too warm WB wise.

Thanks for your thoughts
