Ferrets you can put in your pocket, and small weasel once climbed into my sons pocket for a little rest once while we were camping. I'm not sure about this guy. Although, tess was plotting a way to bring him home and turn him into a pet.

He was taking all the birdseed, cheese, peanuts and chopped nuts we put down for the Jays. I'm pretty sure he was pretty happy.

Thanks, my technique was crimped a bit by the two ladies standing behind me claiming I was in their way. I was going to claim closer was better but then, I suspect people who've paid for those gigantic 150-600mm lenses and then have to carry them around don't want to hear that.

What was the essential technique here in my opinion is, get as close as the animal will allow (although in this case, using a prime lens, I had to back up a bit) , crouch to eye level. Shoot 100 or 200 ISO, shoot bursts, discard the images with motion blur if the shutter speed gets to be low but don't give up on shooting at the lowest possible ISO.

If you put down the food that drew the Marten in for a bit of a photo shoot, you should have told them to fish or put out their own bait!

Good stuff, Norm. I particularly like the 1st and last ones.

When I saw the title, "Pine Martin", I expected photos of a bird, an indication of my zoological ignorance. Instead I see a little mammal (I know that much), and a cute little devil, at that.

One lady was from Florida, she came all this way and this was her last day. She'd never seen one before. I was happy to help out, and I was thanked profusely. They did put stuff out, but not in a place good for photographs.

The bird is a Martin, the animal is a Marten.

great photos

the only one I have ever seen was crossing the road in Yellowstone NP as we were driving in the dark from Old Faithful to Lake Yellowstone

it stopped in the head lights briefly and then continued on

no chance to grab the camera

Those are really cool animals. I got "fussed at" by one on a trail once.

Well spotted and well shot!

Once on a campsite Tess was on with clients, one knew how to open a food barrel. It ate all their breakfasts then tried to get into her tent. She punched it to keep it out and it sprayed her tent, almost as bad as skunk. They just look cute.
